The Lowreys were among the pioneer settlers of what is now South Bend township, in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, where, in 1773, Joseph Lowry came from eastern Pennsylvania and settled on a tract of one hundred and seven acres, which was one of the original thirty-five tracts of land first taken up in the township. He served as justice of the peace for many years and married more couples than any other squire in the county.
