General Notes: Husband - John Say
He was originally from eastern Pennsylvania. About the year 1804 he moved from Slippery Rock Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, to Parker Township and settled on the Martin tract.
He came from Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, and obtained, by "settler's right," a tract of land in Parker Township, Butler County, on which he made permanent settlement in about the year 1800. He was a medium-sized man, pleasant and affable in his manner and universally esteemed. He was a successful farmer, and acquired a fine competency. [HBC 1883, 402x]
He died in 1869. [HBC 1883, 407] There seems to be a problem with the dates given for this man. HBC 1883, 402x states that he died in 1859 at the age of 74, giving him a birth date in about 1785. The same source states that his wife died in 1864 at age 92, giving her a birth date in 1772 - and a substantial difference in their ages - not unusual if the man is older than the woman, but the reverse is unusual, but not impossible. The same source again states that they were married before 1800, but he would seem to be to young at that time if the other dates are correct. And their eldest offspring was born in 1811 - a long delay after their marriage, if the dates given are correct.
He emigrated from Hunt-ingdon County, Pennsylvania, at an early day, and settled on a tract of land in what is now Parker township, Butler County.
He located on a farm of 300 acres in Parker township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, the clearing and de-velopment of this large property was his life work, and he died there.
