General Notes: Husband - Roy Carnegie McKenna
He received his education in the public and high schools of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and in the University of Pittsburgh, graduating from the latter institution in the class of 1903, with the degree of Electrical Engineer. He entered the steel industry forthwith, and was identified with it practically throughout his business career. Until 1915 he devoted the larger part of his time to McKenna Brothers Brass Company, of Pittsburgh, filling important executive positions. In 1915 he was made president of the Vanadium-Alloys Steel Company, of Latrobe. This concern was established in 1910 by a group of Latrobe business men as a corporation, for the purpose of manufacturing alloy tool steel. It began in one building on a very small scale, but the business steadily increased until it employed upward of three hundred persons. The plant covered several acres, with more than 115,000 square feet of floor space in buildings, while the products were sold to all parts of the United States. The first president of the company was E. T. Edwards, who was succeeded in 1915, by Mr. McKenna. During the World War this company gained an enviable record for cooperation with the government.
Mr. McKenna was a director of the Latrobe Trust Company; vice-president of the McKenna Brass and Manufacturing Company; vice-president of the McKenna Horix Manufacturing Company, of Pittsburgh; and director of the Service Tool Company. In politics he was a Republican.
He was a member of Bellefield Lodge, No. 680, Free and Accepted Masons; Tancred Commandery, No. 49, of Pittsburgh; of Pittsburgh Consistory, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; of Syria Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine; of the Kiwanis Club; the Pittsburgh Athletic Association; American Society of Mechanical Engineers; the Latrobe Country Club and the Latrobe Club. Mr. McKenna was a director of the Latrobe Hospital and active in the affairs of the University of Pittsburgh Alumni Association, which he served as president. He was a member and trustee of the Presbyterian Church.
