General Notes: Husband - Joseph E. Martin


He spent his life in farming, living mainly on the 100-acre tract later the property of his son John, which he cleared and improved, building the barn there, and also the house, which he erected in 1880. The last fifteen years of his life were passed on another farm, where his death occurred and where his widow continued to make her home. He took no part in public affairs outside of his home township, but supported the Republican Party faithfully, and he was a Union man during the Civil war, serving as a member of Company I, 6th Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery, the last year of the conflict. He enlisted Sept. 3, 1864, and was honorably discharged June 13, 1865. His religious association was with the Church of God at Barkeyville. [HVC 1919, 1018]
