General Notes: Husband - Peter McKinney
He began lumbering and farming at an early day, and by his industry and economy achieved a conspicuous degree of success.
He served in the following public positions: deputy sheriff, constable, town commissioner, school director, and assessor.
He and his wife reared a family of eight children, five of whom were still living in 1887.
He was born in the state of New Jersey, and there attended school. He learned the occupation of a farmer, and subsequently removed to Garland, Pennsylvania, where he entered the employ of Mr. White in the lumbering business. He later became interested in lumbering and acquired extensive tracts of timber land. In 1870 his wealth was estimated at $80,000. He was a very charitable man and liberally contributed to all charitable undertakings, in fact he was injudicious in many of his contributions, and his wealth all went to that end.
In political affiliation he was a Democrat, but never accepted an office. Religiously he was very liberal-minded. In social circles he was a member of Columbus Lodge, No. 264, F. & A. M.; and of the I. O. O. F., of which he was past grand. [BOB37JD, 512]
