General Notes: Husband - James Nowery

He was born in Ireland, and came to Indiana County, Pennsylvania, prior to 1800; in 1811 he settled on the homestead later owned by his son, Archibald M. Nowery. In digging out a spring on the premises, a small crucible was found of some very heavy metal, which had the appearance of steel. There was a rough coating of brass on it, and it looked as though it had been used to melt brass. On another part of the farm, a portion of a surveyor's compass was found embedded in the clay below the soil. A gold ring, butcher knives, and other relics were found as well.
