He was born in Ireland and immigrated to what is now Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, then Mercer County, about the year 1774, and died in his ninety-eighth year.

The McKean family was of Irish ancestry and founded in America by Hugh McKean, who settled in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, in 1798 and there continued the occupation which he had heretofore followed, that of farming, dying at the age of ninety-five years.
