This branch of the Marquis family, originally of England, first appears in Pennsylvania in the person of David Marquis, who was one of the first settlers in Potato Garden Run, Washington County, later moving to Beaver County. He was a farmer and followed this occupation in both of his Pennsylvania residences, continuing in the latter place until his death. With his wife he was a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church, the faith of which the family had long been communicants.
