General Notes: Husband - George Mifflin Wharton, Esq.
He graduated at the University of Pennsylvania, in the class of 1823, studied law and became one of the leading legal practitioners of Philadelphia. He was vice-provost of the Law Academy, 1845-55; United States district attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, 1857-60; and took a leading part in public affairs of his day. He was particularly active in the cause of education, serving many years as a member of the Board of Public Education, and some years as president of the Board of Control of the Public Schools of the city. He became a member of the American Philosophical Society in 1840, and took an active part in its work.
