In his boyhood he attended the district schools and assisted in the work on the farm. He was for many years one of the representative men of the township, as well as one of its most prosperous citizens. His ample fortune consisted of farm lands and stock in the Midway National Bank at Midway, Pennsylvania. He was a Republican politically and was frequently called upon to serve in local office. He was a member of the school board for two terms and was twice elected judge of elections.
