He was graduated from Washington-Jefferson College in the Class of 1883 and at once registered as a law student in the office of J. W. Donnan, at Washington. He was admitted to the bar in 1886 and later to all the courts of the state and also to the Federal courts. He was in active practice almost continuously thereafter and was counsel for a number of local enterprises.
