General Notes: Husband - John Milton Wilson
He was on the family homestead farm in Jackson township, Butler County, Pennsylvania. He was reared a farmer, and received a public school education. He resided on 200 acres which belonged to his father, and always followed farming. He took an active interest in political matters, and was a stanch supporter of the Democratic party. He was reared in the Presbyterian faith, was originally a member of the Plains church, but later belonged to the church at Evans City. He and his sister, Mary E., resided on the old homestead. He was a member of Harmony Lodge, F. & A. M., and Evans City Lodge, I. O. O. F.
He attended the Wilson School in Jackson Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, working on the farm in the summer seasons. This farm in the days of the grandfather contained 420 acres and he lived in a log cabin in such a wilderness that Indians were their only visitors for a long period. When the death of the grandfather took place, the farm was equally divided between two sons, John H. and George. John H. Wilson made many improvements on his portion of the land, erecting the substantial barn in 1843 and a comfortable farm residence in 1870. This farm was equally well adapted to general agriculture and to grazing.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were members of the Evans City Presbyterian Church. He was identified with the Masons and the Odd Fellows, belonging to the Masonic Lodge-old Harmony No. 429-at Zelienople and to the Odd Fellows at Evans City. In politics, he was a Democrat and belonged to a Democratic family that gave two county commissioners to Butler County.
