General Notes: Husband - Joseph R. McMurray

He spent his boyhood days on a farm. Being a natural student he acquired a good common school education and a practical business knowledge in his father's store at New Washington, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, which was established when he was fourteen years old. There he was first employed as a clerk, and on attaining his majority he bought the business. Subsequently he admitted Samuel Mitchell, of Clearfield, to a partnership, but later he again became sole owner, successfully conducting the store up to his death. For twenty-eight years he was also interested in the lumber business, and dealt considerably in real estate. Prosperity crowned his efforts, and he left to his family a handsome property, including his store and lands. Going to Camden, New Jersey, to be treated for deafness, he died there of apoplexy.
From boyhood he was a leading and active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and Sabbath school, and for some time served as superintendent of the infant department. Socially he belonged to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and politically he was first a Democrat and later a Prohibitionist.

General Notes: Wife - Mary M. Mahaffey

After her husband's death, she took charge of his business affairs, and displayed excellent ability in the management of the store and other business interests.
