General Notes: Husband - James S. McElhoes
He was educated in the public schools of the home locality. When quite young he began work in his father's woolen mill on Pine run, remaining there until 1890. When the old mill at Pine run was destroyed by fire, in 1890, he removed to Indiana borough, forming a partnership with John A. Finley for the manufacture of woolen goods, which they carried on under the firm name of McElhoes & Finley. This firm did business until 1902, when their establishment was burned out, and Mr. McElhoes then organized a concern, which did business under the name of Indiana Woolen Mills Company. It was incorporated with a capital stock of $35,000, and at the beginning Mr. McElhoes became superintendent, filling that position for several years, and then he became secretary. The company made a specialty of woolen blankets, and the business thrived.
He was a prominent member of the Presbyterian Church, which he served as elder, and he was also Sunday school superintendent.
Later in life he made his home on a farm in Rayne township (Home post office), near Kelleysburg, to which he removed from Indiana borough.
