General Notes: Husband - Richard McAllister
He graduated at Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and went to Georgia to enter the law office of Matthew Hall McAllister. While south he met and married his first wife, and came to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to live. He finished his law studies with the Hon. Hamilton Alricks, and was admitted to the Dauphin County bar, November, 1841. He was Deputy Attorney General under Governor Shunk. During the Civil War he was General Grant's Chief Commissary in the Department of the Mississippi. He removed to Washington, D. C., to broaden his field of practice, and "rose to a high position in his profession and social circles."
