She was unmarried in 1907. She taught in Pennsylvania public schools from 1846 to 1865; taught colored people under Pittsburg Freedmen's Aid Ass. one year in Huntsville, Alabama, and from 1866 to 1883 in Nashville, Tennessee, where she was living in 1897.

She remembered her grandmother Mary Lyon and thought she died in 1842.
