General Notes: Husband - Joseph Dewalt Wentling

He was educated in the Greensburg, Pennsylvania, public school, where he prepared himself for a college course. He then matriculated at Lehigh University, and became a graduate of that institution. His attention had early been called to the great development of the coal industry in Western Pennsylvania, and upon completing his studies at Lehigh, he at once engaged in the coal business. His first step in this direction was to enter the employ of the Keystone Coal and Coke Company, and for sixteen years remained associated with this concern, beginning on the lowest rung of the ladder and working his way upward. He finally was promoted to the position of superintendent there. In the year 1912 the Greensburg Coal Company was organized and Mr. Wentling was asked to take the post of superintendent of the new concern. This offer he accepted, and from that time had entire charge of the company's operations.
He also took a prominent place in many activities of the community, and was particularly conspicuous in the social and club life there. He was a member of the Country Club of Greensburg, and of the local lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Mr. Wentling's religious affiliations were with the Episcopal church, and he was a liberal supporter of the work of that organization in Greensburg. He made his home in a handsome residence at No. 143 Seminary avenue, Greensburg.
