General Notes: Husband - Robert Lyle
In 1784 He (with his wife and child), his brother John (with his wife and two children), and his brother Aaron (with his wife and child) came to Washington County, Pennsylvania. They made the journey in covered wagons, passing through Bedford and Somerset counties, and crossing the Monongahela river at Monongahela City, arrived in Washington County about the middle of June, 1784. Their land was a tract which was situated five miles south of Burgettstown, where the brothers passed the remainder of their lives.
He came to Mt. Pleasant township, Washington County, with his wife and one child in 1784, and bought one hundred and forty acres of land of David Decker, and also the eighty acres of John Brown, and on which he settled. Four years later, Oct. 31, 1789, he purchased a tract of one hundred and forty acres adjoining of David Decker, and sold the first tract to his brother, John Lyle. On this last tract he moved and lived till his death.
A soldier of the Revolutionary War, he served both as a private and as sergeant in the company of his brother, Captain John Lyle, in the Second Battalion of the Militia of Northampton County, Pennsylvania. He passed through many engagements unwounded.
He was a man above medium height, of slender build, nervous temperament, and of a kindly, sentimental disposition.
He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church from 1792 until his death; first in the church at Cross Creek; afterwards, from 1824 until 1832, in the church at Upper Buffalo, and in the latter part of his life in the church at Mt. Prospect, near his home farm in Mt. Pleasant Township, Washington County.
