General Notes: Husband - Hon. Robert Stewart Robinson
He was educated in the subscription schools of the time, and spent most of his time on the homestead farm till he was about twenty-two years of age, when he entered into general merchandising and stock-raising and dealing at Stewartsville, Pennsylvania. He pursued merchandising for three or four years, profitably for the times, and about 1843 gave up merchandising, and removing to a farm in the vicinity of Stewartsville, gave his attention to farming and stock-raising. He raised short-horn Durhams as his particular pride, taking an interest in pure breeds. He also raised good stocks of horses, the Kentucky driving horses and Clydesdale draught horses claiming his particular attention.
In politics Mr. Robinson was a Jeffersonian-Jackson Democrat, but not an extremist. He held various township offices, which he never sought. In 1880 he was elected to the State Legislature for the term of two years, representing the district of Westmoreland County, and took his seat in January, 1881. He was assigned to the committees on agriculture, manufactures, elections, and others.
