He received his preliminary education at Atwood, Armstrong County, and the State normal school at Indiana. He took his medical course at what is now known as the University of Pittsburgh, graduating March 26, 1891, and in 1893 became one of the instructors at that institution, with which he was connected in that capacity for six years, until 1899. He had commenced practice in Pittsburgh, and remained there for twenty-one years after his graduation, but he became tired of city life, and in 1912 returned to the locality where he spent his early life, settling in the borough of Elderton. He had a very successful career, both as an instructor and in general practice.
