He was ten years of age when he was brought to South Huntingdon township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He was a prosperous farmer, a good citizen, a devout member of the Mennonite church at Stonersville and a whig and republican in politics.
He and his wife had five sons and three daughters.
