General Notes: Husband - William Reader [2] Wallace
He succeeded his father on the Scott township farm, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, but spent his last years in Union township, departing this life there at the age of eighty-four. He followed general farming all his days. He was a Whig and then a Republican in his political views, and took a prominent part in the local politics of the community in which he lived; he was a justice of the peace for many years, filled the office of county commissioner, and served in the State militia as colonel.
He lived on the farm where he was born until 1847, when he removed to the farm near Edenburg, one-half of which had been left him by his father and the other half to his brother Robert.
He was a man of influence and prominence, having served his county in several responsible positions, and he was a colonel of the militia when the old system of military enrolment and training was abolished by the State. On April 6, 1896, he was struck and killed by a passing locomotive on the Pittsburg and L. E. Railroad.
