General Notes: Husband - James W. McCarthy
He taught for a number of years. He was afterwards a farmer and stock dealer in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, and was later engaged in the livery business at Huntingdon.
His boyhood and youth were spent under the paternal roof on the homestead farm, his education being obtained in the public schools of the Kishacoquillas valley, under the tuition of his father, who was a very superior teacher. After completing his education his time was occupied in agricultural pursuits, combined with dealing in live stock, during the summer, and for six winter terms, during his early life, he taught in the public schools of the Kishacoquillas valley. In 1884 he abandoned farming and stock dealing, and removed to Huntingdon, and engaged in the livery business.
