General Notes: Husband - Rev. Aaron Loucks
He attended the public schools of Scottdale, and for a short period of time was a student at the Chicago Moody Bible Institute. He took up farming and followed the same until 1900 in East Huntingdon township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, his operations being in the main successful. In 1892 he was ordained a minister in the Mennonite church by Bishop John N. Derr, of Martinsburg, Pennsylvania. He took up his work in the Alverton Church, but after 1893, when the church in Scottdale was built, he labored in the interest of that congregation. In addition to considerable outside work at different points, he attended to the duties and needs of the church at Masontown. He was the manager of The Gospel Witness, a religious weekly, published at Scottdale, and director at large of the Mennonite Board of Charitable Homes and Missions. He was a member of the board of directors of Goshen College, at Goshen, Indiana. He was also a director and stockholder of the Scottdale Printing Company, one of the leading business enterprises of that borough. [HWC 1906 II, 445]

He had already shown a marked religious tendency, and in 1892, after studying at the Moody Bible Institute, was ordained a minister in the Mennonite church by Bishop John N. Derr. The following year he took up his work at the church in Alverton, but shortly afterwards, when the church at Scottdale was built, he was placed in charge of that congregation, and devoted his attention and best endeavors to the welfare thereof ever after. In addition to considerable outside work at various points, he attended to the duties and needs of the church at Masontown. He was also manager of the "Gospel Witness" a religious weekly, published at Scottdale for many years, and was at one time at the head of the Mennonite Publishing Company. He was also a member of the board of trustees of Goshen College at Goshen, Indiana, director of the Mennonite Board of Charitable Homes and Missions, a director and a stockholder of the Scottdale Printing Company. He was eventually elected Bishop of the Mennonite church.
