General Notes: Husband - John F. Long, M.D.
He attended the common schools in Harrison City, Westmoreland County, PA, and later the Harrison City Normal School. When he was eleven years old he worked in the coal mines, but after completing his education became a teacher, and for eight years followed this calling in North Huntingdon and Penn townships. He studied for his profession at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1894 with the degree of Doctor of Medicine, and then began active practice. He belonged to the German Union Annuity Insurance Company of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Long was active as a citizen. He served two terms as auditor, one as school director, and held the office of tax collector. He was inspector and judge of elections, and served for five years as justice of the peace. He belonged to the Manor Protective Association, Lodge No. 94, Junior Order of United American Mechanics, of Harrison City, and was a member of Lodge No. 486, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, of Jeannette. He was an Independent in politics and was a member of the Reformed church and belonged to the order of Malta of Jeannette.
