General Notes: Husband - Jesse A. Peebles
He was born on what later became the Charles Shafer farm in Cherrytree Township, Venango County, PA, and was reared to agricultural work, which was the main business of his life. He helped with the work at home from boyhood, becoming thoroughly familiar with the operation of the home farm, which he continued to cultivate until 1908, when he purchased from P. B. Deets the John M. Stewart farm of seventy-eight acres in Cherrytree Township, a finely improved property with excellent buildings, the house and barn erected by Mr. Deets. It is in the oil belt, and when he bought it there were about fifteen old wells on the place, the lessees-the Deets Oil Company-later made developments which brought the number of producing wells up to twenty-five, yielding Mr. Peebles a handsome royalty. He looked after the pumping in connection with his farm work, and was regarded as one of the substantial men of his neighborhood, as well as one of its progressive spirits, furthering all local enterprises which appealed to him as worthy of support. He belonged to the Grange and Odd Fellows lodge at Titusville, and like the men of his family generally gave his political allegiance to the Democratic Party. [CAB, 908]
