He had the advantage of an excellent education, attending the public schools, then entering Washington and Jefferson Academy, from which he graduated in 1907. The same year he entered Washington and Jefferson College, from which institution he graduated with honor in the year 1911. He then pursued a course in the law department of the University of Pittsburgh, receiving therefrom the degree of Bachelor of Laws in the year 1914. He engaged in the practice of law in the Bakewell Building, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
