At an early age she was sent to a select school at Pine Grove, Pennsylvania; she was only eight when her parents settled at Smethport, McKean County, and her education was there continued in the public school. She continued to reside at Smethport. She was a member of the Protected Home Circle, and attended the Methodist Episcopal church.
