General Notes: Husband - Anderson Soles
He obtained his education in the common schools of his native town, and worked on the farm with his father until the latter's death, when he succeeded to the estate. In 1887 he opened stone quarries on the old homestead, in a small way at first, but his business gradually increased until his operations were on an extensive scale. Besides operating the quarries, he was a contractor of stone work of all kinds and employed a number of men in the various branches of his business.
In politics Mr. Soles was a republican, and he stood high in the councils of his party. He served two terms as a member of the common council from the eighth ward, after which he was elected to the select council. He was re-elected to this body at a special election in May, 1903.
