General Notes: Husband - William List

---

He was one of a family of twelve children.

He was born in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, but when one year of age his parents moved to Glade Mills, Bulter County. His boyhood was spent working at what ever fell to his hand. Upon the breaking out of the Civil War he enlisted, June 3, 1861, in Company D, 11th Regiment, P.R.V.C., taking part in all the engagements of that famous regiment, until the battle of Fredericksburg, Dec. 13, 1862, where he received a painful wound that disabled him from active duty for a time. Of the sixty-two men of his company that took part in the engage­ment, but five escaped being killed or wounded. Discharged June 13, 1864, he engaged in the oil business on Oil creek and other places until the early 70's, when, desiring a less strenuous life, he moved onto a farm in the Sugarcreek valley.
