He was born January 30. [MACP, 305]
He was brought by his parents to their new home in Chartiers township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, where his youth was passed. After marriage he began to manage the home farm. He was a Whig, taking an active part in the early political history of the county; he had a brother who served in the war of 1812. In religious faith he was first a Seceder, then joined the United Presbyterian Church of Canonsburg.
