The Bailey family mingle in their veins the blood of English, Scotch and Irish ancestry, and the first American settlers were among the Colonists who came to America with William Penn, and were members of the Society of Friends.

He was reared in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, became a school teacher, and at an early day removed with his family to Clearfield County, taking up his residence near Curwensville, about 1811. There he developed a farm, upon which he made his home until his death.
