He came to America in 1858, (a year later than his son, John A.), with his wife and son Christian. He had served in the German army for a period of twelve years. Upon arriving in America he rented a farm and followed agricultural pursuits. After the death of his wife he went to Canada, and there purchased a farm upon which he made many substantial improvements. He married again in Canada, a widow with children. He died at the advanced age of eighty-five years. He was of the Lutheran religious faith.
