General Notes: Husband - E. McC. Turney
He attended the Old Seminary for the preliminary portion of his education, and then entered upon a mining career and became a practical mining engineer. In 1903 he was offered and accepted a position with the Jamison Coal Company, which operated in the vicinity of his home, as a mining engineer, and was retained by this concern in that capacity for a period of twelve years. He was also engaged largely in construction work. He was identified with nearly all the tipples of the company, having helped in constructing them, and had a wide range of experience. He spent four years in the opening of the new coal field in West Virginia for the Jamison Company and was later made outside foreman of Mine No. 4. In April, 1915, he was advanced to superintendent. There were eleven hundred men employed in the mine. The coke ovens amounted to four hundred and ninety-two and the output from them was eighteen hundred tons. Mine No. 4 was one of the most important mines of the Jamison Company
