General Notes: Husband - Lodowick Lillibridge

The Lillibridge family was in Rhode Island, prior to its establishment in Pennsylvania. The name was very common in Richmond, Washington County, Rhode Island, in the eighteenth century, yet was apparently not found in the county until about 1725.

The first member of the Lillibridge family about whom we have definite information, was among the first settlers in Port Allegany, McKean County, Pennsylvania, to which he came with the Stantons. From this one could suppose that he had formerly lived at Mount Pleasant, Wayne County, and some slight corroboration of this may be found in the early history of that place, though the family seems to have been there but a short time.

In about 1853 he built a large three-story tavern at the four corners of the village [Port Allegany]. The upper floor was used as a ballroom, and at the opening dance the famous Ole Bull furnished the music. Three years later he retired to the homestead on Mill Street, where he died, leaving his wife and all of his children, with the exception of Lucy L. Hull, married and established in Port Allegany and vicinity. The homestead became the property of Samuel Stanton Lillibridge and Louisa Wilkin, his wife. All of the descendants of Samuel Stanton Lillibridge were born in this old homestead.
