General Notes: Husband - John R. Pearce

He was born in Livermore, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He spent his early years in his native town, and attended the public schools until he was fifteen years of age. He then learned the drug business practically in his father's store, working for him as clerk for six years. At the age of twenty-one years he entered the Pittsburg College of Pharmacy, from which he was graduated in the class of 1899. He then for a time served as clerk in various drug stores, at one time having charge of the Pittsburg Free Dispensary. He removed to Vandergrift Heights in 1902 and engaged in the drug business on his own account.
Politically Mr. Pearce was a Republican, and it was mainly through his efforts that Vandergrift Heights obtained its postoffice. He was made its first postmaster, after a great deal of hard work on his part. He made three trips to Washington to push this matter, and was finally appointed August 9, 1892. In religion he was a Methodist, as were all members of his family. He was a member of the K. P. and of the K. G. E.
