He was born and reared on the home farm. For thirteen years after marriage they resided in Luthersburg, Pennsylvania, where he followed the shoemaker's trade, but after 1887 he lived retired in Du Bois, where he owned much valuable real estate, including a large block at Nos. 911 and 913 Brady street.
