He was road commissioner and assessor for West Deer Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, before the Civil War. He enlisted in the Federal Army and went out with Company A, 6th Pa. Artillery and served until the close of the war, when he retired to Allegheny City. He was assessor of the city for a number of years.
