After finishing the country schools, he attended schools of higher learning at Strattonville, PA, and other places. He taught for a short time, then followed the fortunes of the oil country at the Whitehill farm, Kittanning, Oak­mont, Gill-Hall, Chester Hill, and then in Chelsea, Oklahoma. He was a genial, broad-minded, kind-heart­ed, thoroughly honest man.
