General Notes: Husband - Dr. J. Morgan Maurer, M.D.
He was two years old when his parents moved with their family to Baltimore, Maryland, and there he received a liberal common-school education. He commenced the study of medicine in 1871 and during 1873, '74,'75, attended the Hahnemann Medical College of Philadelphia, from which he graduated. After this he practiced a short time in Baltimore, then in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, till September, 1877, when he came to Washington, Washington County, Pennsylvania. There being at that time no Homoeopathic physician in the town, he had to work his way into practice, by demonstrating (against no inconsiderable amount of prejudice) the real merits of the Hahnemann system. The Doctor made a specialty of the diseases of women and children, and his ride for a long time extended throughout the entire county, but in later years he, to a considerable extent, gave up country practice.
He was a member of the Episcopal Church of Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and socially he was connected with the I. O. O. F. and Jr. O. U. A. M. He was extensively interested in the development of the oil fields in and around Washington County.
