General Notes: Husband - James C. Matthews

He was educated at the district schools of his native township, and was reared from boyhood to agricultural pursuits of the farm.
He and his wife were members of the U. P. Church, in which he was an elder for more than fifteen years, and was superintendent of the Sabbath-school of Mount Prospect Church. He was a solid Democrat in his political preferences, and February 15, 1892, was elected township assessor. In his farming operations he was eminently successful, and beginning in 1875 conducted an undertaking establishment in the village of Thomas.
