General Notes: Husband - George Matter

---

He was born at the old home in Lykens Valley, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, and was educated in both English and German in the schools of the locality, being especially well-read in the latter language. Although he was a cooper by trade he followed farming throughout his life, and in 1838 he removed from his native place to Sugar Valley, Clinton County, where he resided for four years. He then settled in Stone Valley, Huntingdon County, making a permanent home, and his death occurred there. Politically he was always a Democrat, and, like his parents, he remained a devoted adherent of the Lutheran Church.
