General Notes: Husband - James P. Martin

He left Pennsylvania around 1880 and went to his uncle John Martin in Missouri as uncle John was ill and needed help on the farm. A little nine year old girl that lived up the road had a childish crush on James (called Jas). She would stop in and brush his hat and, as he was fond of children, he gave her candy. The little girl grew up into a lovely lady and James asked her to go to a dance with him. Because he was fourteen years older than she, she said to her mother, "I don't want to go out with that old man." Her mother said, "Now you go on with him he is such a nice fellow and has a nice buggy and horse to take you in and you always did like him." One year later they married. They lived in the home with his uncle John and aunt Mary Frances Martin until 1892 when Jas bought eighty acres of land across the road and built a home. The house first had two rooms but after the fifth child was born another room was added. Later on, four large rooms and a large porch were added. Both Jas and Ann worked hard to make a good life, and had a prosperous farm. Ann Rachel belonged to the Methodist Church in Lincoln, Missouri, and Jas attended the church from time to time.
