He acquired his elementary education in the township public schools, and later studied at Frankfort Springs Academy, after which he enrolled at Washington and Jefferson College, graduating in 1907 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. He next enrolled at Detroit College of Law, and after receiving his degree of Bachelor of Laws he was admitted to the Pennsylvania bar, after which time he was engaged in the general practice of law in Pittsburgh.
