He was a cabinet maker. For a number of years he kept hotel; in 1825 he was steward of the Dauphin county, Pennsylvania, almshouse. He had retired from active business, relinquishing farming, in which he had for some time been engaged, some years before his death, which occurred when he was seventy-six years old. They were members of the Lutheran church.
