He was born in Clinton township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, and was reared on a farm. At the age of seventeen he became a salesman for the McCormick Reaper Company, which business he followed until the spring of 1893, when he formed a partner­ship with H. W. Love, under the firm name of Krumpe & Love, and thereafter engaged in the manufacture of brick and tile. He was a member of the Lutheran church, is connected with the Jr. O. U. A. M., and was an ardent sup­porter of the Republican party.
