General Notes: Husband - Baxter S. Redpath
He was educated in public schools of McCandless township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and worked at the home farm until 1862. That year he enlisted in Company F, One Hundred and Thirty-ninth Regiment Pennsylvania Infantry, serving three years. He saw hard service with the Army of the Potomac, being engaged in twenty-eight different battles. At Cold Harbor, a ball struck his belt buckle, knocking him down. He did not relish the thought of confinement in a Southern prison and resolved to make a break for liberty. He used his heels to good purpose and gained a good start, then the guard began firing on him. One bullet passed through his canteen and another struck his blanket that was strapped between his shoulders, passing about half way to the flesh. But he escaped without a wound and rejoined his regiment. After his safe return from the war he became a farmer and one of the successful men of the township. He was president of the McCandless Township Mutual Fire Insurance Company. He was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church.
