The emigrant ancestor of this family was a German, living in Switzerland, from whence, with wife and children, he sailed for America. He landed with his children in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, his wife having died at sea. From Philadelphia the family moved to Reading, thence to Middletown, Pennsylvania, where the father worked at his trade, weaving, for a short time, then moved to Lewistown, Pennsylvania, about the year 1828, and there died.
