Taylorstown, Washington Co, PA
He served as justice of the peace of Blaine Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, from 1891 to the time of his death.
He attended the public schools of Washington County, Pennsylvania, and for two terms the Claysville Normal School. He then engaged in teaching school, which vocation he followed in that county for sixteen years, gaining a high reputation as an educator. He served as postmaster of Taylorstown for four years, from 1885 to 1889; also as justice of the peace thirty-two years, as assessor two terms, as school director for a number of years, as road supervisor four years, and as tax collector ten years. He was an active member of the United Presbyterian church, in which he was once a trustee and later an elder. He was a delegate from the Chartiers Presbytery of the joint meeting of the assembly of northern and southern United Presbyterian and Presbyterian churches held at Atlanta, Georgia, in May, 1913, and was accompanied by his wife.
