General Notes: Husband - John Knox

---

He was born in County Antrim, Ireland, whence, in 1811 he emigrated to the shores of America, landing at New York. After about two years, moving from place to place and prospecting, he settled in Washington County, Pennsylvania, in 1813, where he purchased 110 acres of land at $10 per acre, having ten years in which to pay the amount. The tract was then nearly all wildwood. He and his wife were faithful members of the United Presbyterian Church, and in politics Mr. Knox was an uncompromising Democrat, his first vote in the land of his adoption being cast for Andrew Jackson. He came from Ireland to America about the year 1808, bringing with him his young wife, and settled on a farm in Buffalo township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. [CBRWC, 880]

He and his wife were the parents of eight children, five of whom were still living in 1893. Their eldest child was born on the Atlantic ocean while they were on their way to America.
